Faith
Had I but faith enough!. Then, I could move
The legendary mountains at my will;
Then, in my life, I surely would succeed
And from achievements’ honours take my fill;
Or, being humble in belief, find need
For nothing more than peace of mind, as can
Close-cloistered monks, or gurus of the East,
Or any blessèd Saint or simple man;
Then, in my personal relationships,
Contented harmonies would be increased
As I enjoyed the comforts of shared love;
Then, Heaven would be mine, God on my lips.
But, lacking the strong certitudes of faith, I must
Ask: “If I desire faith, do I have faith enough?”.
